Here are some pictures I have made for no other reason than the enjoyment of making them. Perhaps they will form part of some strange narrative one day as I keep adding more pictures, who knows? I'm just enjoying the process, recklessly risking ruining everything by making rash decisions involving indian ink, working mistakes into something else, slowly developing a technique I can call my own...

Edition Peix in Berlin regularly commission me for a calendar they publish every year. Although I have to tackle a different theme each time and the format is rather "unorthodox" I always enjoy these jobs. Here are some of my contributions.

The theme of Nobrow 5 was "Some of my favourite things" and the brief came with the added challenge of creating a repeat pattern using 4 spot colours (one being GOLD)!! In order to draw some fun objects I decided to pretend to be someone with a more interesting collection of "favourite things" than I myself have. I chose to be an explorer/botanist/adventurer from the early 1900's, loosely based on the exploits of Col. Percy Fawcett, a "tough as nails" explorer of the Amazon jungle who vanished without a trace in 1925 serching for a lost civilisation. The creature in the middle started out a tiger, but morped into a bat. It's his prize trophy; a golden tiger-bat!

Here is the image I did for Nobrow 3, which again pushed me to experiment with spot colours and textures. The theme was "Topsy Turvy", which kind of means "upside down" or "inside out". After a week of struggling with ideas, my friend Marc told me about this ancient Roman festival called "Saturnalia" which seemed like a great answer to the brief. During the Saturnalia celebrations the social order was completely turned on it's head; slaves and masters swapped roles, feuds and arguments were put on hold and people gave each other gifts and basically just had a massive party. I spent quite a lot of time researching this one, but must admit I've taken a few liberties with the historical accuracy.

Here's a recent piece I did, inspired by a book about tin soldiers. I've tinted it red and cropped it in various geometric shapes for no good reason at all!

When Bren from the Small Print asked me to take part in their "Illustrated Alphabet" project, how could I refuse? They already some of my favourite illustrators on board! I was randomly given the letter C, and had to do 2 images. 1, a typographic piece and 2, an image (Object, Activity, Animal or Emotion) starting with my assigned letter.
My piece is called "Cowboy in Cactus Landscape".

When I discovered Yee-Haw Industries in an issue of Print Magazine back in 1999 it was love at first sight. Kevin Bradley's hillbilly posters and Tim Winklers folk arty illustrations just totally blew me away (and led to some serious ripping off in my second year of college...)
In 2002 I went on a pilgrimage to Knoxville, Tennessee to see their studio (The St. Pauls Cathedral of Letterpress Print) ...Turned out they were the nicest people ever and we got on like a house on fire. Since then we've done a lot of work together. Here's a few examples!
